Gather 9/7		knit together the next 7 stitches (these are the extra-wrap stitches from the previous row -- drop the extra wraps), do not remove the stitches from the left needle. Work K7-tog-b, k7-tog, K7-tog-b, k7-tog, K7-tog-b, k7-tog, K7-tog-b, k7-tog in the same seven stitches. The result is 9 stitches worked into seven stitches.
Gather 3/3		knit together the next 3 stitches, do not remove the stitches from the left needle. Work k3-tog-b, k3-tog in the same three stitches. The result is to gather three stitches together to make a bit of a knot.
		Note: As this pattern was originally written, the first row shown here was the last row and it did not have the seven stitches with the extra wraps. I realized that the Gather 9/7 stitch is very difficult for most knitters. I modified the pattern to put the extra wraps in the row before the Gather 9/7 so those stitches are looser and easier to work. If you are working this on stilletto needles with a lace weight yarn, you may be able to work it without the extra wraps.
